A Brief Guide to Getting Started

Whether you’re seeking support for chronic pain, anxiety, depression, grief, or faith‑integrated healing, this guide will help you know what to expect when it comes to starting therapy.

Step 1: Schedule a Free Phone Consultation

  • Your first step is a brief phone consultation. This is a chance for us to connect, discuss what you’re hoping for in therapy, and determine whether we’re a good fit.

  • During this call, you can ask questions about my approach, availability, or anything else that helps you feel grounded in your decision.

  • You can easily schedule your brief, free phone consult using this link.

Step 2: Complete Your Intake Paperwork

If we decide to move forward, you’ll receive secure digital intake forms. These forms help me understand your history, goals, and what you’re currently navigating. Most clients complete their paperwork in 10–15 minutes.

Step 3: Attend Your First Session

Your intake session (lasting 50 minutes) is a spacious, unhurried time to:

  • Share what brings you to therapy, describing as much of your experience as you would like

  • Explore your hopes and concerns, setting goals for what you would like to change

  • Receive initial insights and input from me, experiencing the relief of getting started on your healing journey

Whether we meet in person in Grand Rapids or online across PsyPact states, sessions are designed to help you feel safe, seen, and supported.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions, then adjust as needed. We’ll discuss what frequency best supports your goals and emotional wellbeing.

  • Yes—when desired. I offer Christian mindfulness and faith‑integrated therapy for clients who want their spiritual life to be part of the healing process. If you prefer a non‑religious approach, therapy remains fully evidence‑based and client‑centered.
